Maryland Rock Opener

Yesterday was Maryland's Spring Rockfish Opener. I have
missed the last 2 seasons so this year
Donna and I made our way to Shelltown to spend the
weekend with good freinds Greg and Robin Morgan.

With High hopes the weather would hold off we set out into
the bay early Saturday Morning on the Miss B captained by
Greg Morgan. Along for the trip were friend Frank Hoerien,
my wife Donna, and Tommy Hinkle.

Tommy, we later learned
was the 2008 Ocean City
White Marlin Tournament
winner with an 81 lb'r
as seen in the photo here.
Good to know that along
with Capt. Greg we had some
accomplished fisherman on
board. Way to go Tommy.
It was fun talking to ya.

Anyways we set out in some cloudy conditions,
and Tommy and Frank got busy on getting
everything set up and ready.

Captain Greg manned the Miss B.

And Donna enjoyed the day.

Finally after about an hour we got our first strike.
I was up, and pulled a 34"r from the 220 "way-back".

Shortly after that, thick fog rolled in and we never got
another hit. We headed back around 2:30 with 1 fish, but
it was fun never the less with the great company we had on board.
The best report we heard that day was 3 on another boat. Guess
they were in the sound as they usually are this time of year.

And after its all over, including a visit to a
secret assparagus patch the eatin' is real good.
Thanks again to good friend Greg and of course
Robin for letting us spend the weekend.

Bowfishing Season Has Officially Started

Hit a pond on the way home from work
today just for the heck of it. Its plenty
early but the way the weather has been
this year I figured why not.
I was surprised to see them turning up as
much mud as they did.
I was really surprised to see them floating
into bow range.
I missed on the 1st shot, but connected
on the 2nd.

I got a little video
of every miss, and hit.
Here are some screen grabs
from the hit. The red
arrow is pointing at the carp.

Another magazine Article

My favorite online forum has to be MarylandWhitetail.com

Joe Subolefsky is the owner, and recently added a new
feature, the "MWC Online Magazine.

On its 2nd issue, I
was asked by him if I wanted to write up a little ditty
about a recent Sika Deer hunt, and add a video. That is
the cool thing about an on-line magazine is the opportunity
to add multi-media content.

Anyways, I was happy to oblige and wrote a story about
my 2009 season in Maryland's Marsh "Home Of The Sika Deer".

So check out the pages below, and if you want to take a look
at the entire magazine just click on the cover.

Getting ready for the beach's of North Carolina.

I have tried to land a fish off the beach on our last 2 visits
to one of my wife's favorite vacation spots, the Outer Banks.
So far I have caught "0" fish off the beach.
I started with equipment that I already owned in 2009,
and quickly bought a 9' rod to cast better.

Went home with nothing that trip, but had a great vacation.

Then the following year we went back and tried
fishing from the banks again with no luck,
so we chartered a boat and caught some
flounder in the bay.

But still no fish from the surf.
After watching and talking to other guys, I determined that my
equipment was not working so I bought a 12' surf rod Friday night.
That should help me "Get Out Farther" from the beach.

Don't know if it will make a difference, but I am going to try.
We are also planning on renting a small boat and fish the bay side.
Can't wait to hit North Carolina with my wife.
