Outer Banks Trip 2012

"Clicking on the pictures makes them bigger"

Donna and I took our vacation this year in the
OuterBanks again, "Pre" Summer Rush.
When we got there however the weather was a bit off.
The waves were crashing pretty good.
We stayed indoors that evening but shared the
traditional vacation Spirits via Cabo Wabo.

The next morning we woke up to breaking sun, so
I grabbed the rod, and tied on some bait.
Catching a fish from a beach has become a bucket-list item
which has long denied me however.

Just as I was putting my rods away Donna came out with some
towels, and another fellow started casting some bait.  As my
luck usually proves, he caught some fish. Croakers, spot,
sting-rays, and even a blow fish.
He was using the same bait I was.

We in the meantime kicked back, and I even built a sand castle...........
And here is an old Indian trick on keeping beers chilled.

That night I finally caught my first fish off the beach.
A tasty lil' croaker.

The next morning the fog rolled in so I hit the beach again with no luck.

We drove under a bridge where i heard there was some decent
pier fishing and caught some croakers, and crabs.  Most of the
crabs were too small but we did manage a few.
Donna had fun, and even baits her own hook.

We decided we would rent a skiff one day on the bayside
and try our luck.  We caught a few speckled trout, and some
croakers but no keeper crabs. Donna had fun, and thats all
that matters. That night we cooked up our combined catch's.

We had considered heading down to Hatteres or up to Corolla to
drive on the beach and sit in chairs for the day, but new this year
there a 7 day permit is $ 50.00.
Forget that, I've done it before, no big deal.

All in all it was a relaxing vacation and time well spent.
Looking forward to going back again.
