Bowfishing For Gar
I had no idea that there were Gar in Maryland until
some recent pics have been showing up on-line.
Last year Joe Subolefsky, the owner of
some recent pics have been showing up on-line.
Last year Joe Subolefsky, the owner of
MarylandWhitetail.com offered chance to go bowfishing
with him on his boat. The deal was that everyone that
placed an order in the store got there name thrown in the
hat with a shot at the drawing for a night hunt for 2 people.
At the MWC Bonfire last year Mark Size and I agreed
that if either of us had won that we would take the other.
Well I was the lucky guy so we will both be going on our
first "Nightly Bowfishing Hunt".
We were not able to pick a date last year so we finally
first "Nightly Bowfishing Hunt".
We were not able to pick a date last year so we finally
agreed on this past weekend, and Joe said a gar hunt was
available if that's what we wanted.
So we met Joe Saturday night, at a boat ramp
So we met Joe Saturday night, at a boat ramp
and headed out under fading light.
After it got dark Mark hit one on his first opportunity
And after a few miss's he connected on another.
Mark ended up with 9 dead Gar and some misses.
For some reason most of the shots were on his side
of the boat. And he's a good shot.
I did get 1 gar, and 1 catfish, but man was that a
hoot. Thanks again Joe for a great night on the water
with some great views, and good company. I wish I
would have taken more time to take pictures but I was
too busy looking for targets. And yeah, I missed
quite a few.
Here are a few more pictures.
Cleaning and filleting these things is like opening up a metal can.
